Enjoy Your Mangoes at Their Best — Safe, Sweet, and Handled with Love
At Fantastic Mangoes, we fly our fruit straight from Indian orchards directly to your door, usually within 4 to 5 days of harvest. Because our mangoes ripen naturally during transport, your box will likely contain a beautiful mix of ripe, semi-ripe, and raw (green) mangoes. With a little care, every single one will ripen perfectly.
Let your mangoes breathe! Keeping them sealed in the shipping box traps heat and moisture, which can cause them to spoil faster.
Give each mango a gentle press near the stem. If the mango is soft & fragrant, it is ripe and ready! Eat these first or pop them in the fridge. If they are firm & green they needs a little more time. Follow our ripening tips below.
Do not use the original ventilated shipping box to ripen or store your mangoes. The holes allow ethylene gas to escape, which slows down the ripening process and exposes the fruit to excess moisture.
Mangoes naturally produce ethylene, a safe ripening hormone. You don't need any chemicals to get them ready to eat! Here are three natural methods:
Place green mangoes inside a brown paper bag and loosely fold it shut. This traps the ethylene gas and speeds up ripening safely.
Wrap each mango individually in newspaper, then place them in a closed, unventilated cardboard box or basket in a cool, dark, dry spot (like a pantry).
Line a standard, non-ventilated cardboard box with newspaper. Place wrapped mangoes inside, close the box completely, and store it away from direct sunlight or heat.

Hard, bright green, no aroma. Store at room temperature using the methods above.

Slight color change, but still firm. Keep stored; do not refrigerate.

Yields slightly to pressure, faint sweet smell. Check daily!

Soft to a gentle press, strong sweet aroma, golden color. Eat now or refrigerate for 2-3 days.

Very soft, wrinkly skin. Perfect for smoothies, lassi, or freezing as pulp.
Not all green mangoes are unripe, and a red blush is just a sun-exposure trait. Always judge ripeness by flesh softness and the aroma near the stem.
Ripen your mangoes at room temperature (68–72°F). Never refrigerate a raw mango, as it halts the ripening process. Prolonged exposure to temperatures below 50°F can cause chilling injury, gray patches, and off-flavors.
Only move mangoes to the refrigerator (ideally 54–60°F) once they are fully ripe. Enjoy them within 2 to 3 days for peak juiciness.
All Fantastic Mangoes undergo USDA-required Cobalt-60 gamma irradiation. This safely eliminates pests (like fruit flies), leaves absolutely zero residue, does not make the fruit radioactive, and has no impact on taste, ripening, or nutrition.
Small black spots are usually just cosmetic sap burn or minor transit bruising. Cut the mango open; if the flesh is golden and smells sweet, it is perfectly safe and delicious. Discard only if the inside is mushy, brown, or smells off.
Fine wrinkles near the stem mean the mango is at absolute peak ripeness—eat it today! However, if the whole fruit is heavily wrinkled and feels hollow, it has lost too much moisture and is past its prime.
No! Heat will just cook the fruit. Ripening requires ethylene gas and a little patience. The paper bag method is the fastest, safest way to get the best flavor.
